4 Patriotic Treats to Amp Up Your Summer BBQ - Guest Post

Summer is the perfect time to get together and have a BBQ with family or friends. The suns out, the weathers warm and the grill can be fired up. Aside from the grilled foods, you can also make patriotic treats to go along with your delicious meal. All you need for each of these treats are sprinkles and a creative imagination!

Chocolate Dipped Strawberries With a Patriotic Twist

Strawberries are already red, so you only need to add two more colors. Melt white chocolate and dip the strawberries in blue sprinkles. Some guests may not like white chocolate, so feel free to use any kind of chocolate you like, or mix and match the colors to your needs. Your guests will gobble up the strawberries right before your eyes. These also quick and easy to make if you're short on time, for instance, if your BBQ was last minute. It's important to keep checking on the strawberries if it's warm outside. The chocolate could melt right off of them if it's too hot.

Sprinkled Ice Cream Sandwiches

This is another quick snack to pull together to show your pride. All you need are red, white and blue sprinkles. Next you dump the sprinkles onto a plate and mix the colors around. Finally remove the ice cream sandwiches from their wrappers, and press the sides of the sandwiches into the sprinkles. You can cut the sandwiches in half too if you're trying to portion your food for your BBQ. This is another snack you should keep in the freezer until it's needed.

Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Sticks

This is similar to the chocolate dipped strawberries. It's easier to dip the tips of pretzel sticks rather than dipping a regular pretzel. Dip the tip of the pretzel in your chocolate of choice and immediately roll the tip of pretzel in red, white and blue sprinkles. The drying time of the chocolate will be much quicker than the strawberries. You can stick the pretzel in the fridge to speed up the drying time.

Red, White, and Blue Popsicles.

These popsicles are easy to make, but it can be time consuming. All you need is blue Gatorade or Powerade, cranberry juice and lemonade. If you are limited on time, pour each of these juices into paper cups with popsicle sticks. It will take a few hours for these to harden. After they harden peel off the paper cup and your popsicles are ready to serve. If you have more time or are feeling creative, freeze the popsicles into layers so they have multiple colors and flavors. Kids will love these, but they do get sticky!
