I cannot believe it is already August 13th!? This summer vacation with the kids felt more like a couple of weeks then two months. I hate when that happens. We didn't get to go any where special this summer but we still managed to have fun together. I have enjoyed watching my kids develop a strong bond with each other. Since we are a blended family, and some outsiders say that they aren't really siblings, I tend to think that will influence their relationship with each other. I was proven wrong this summer. My bonus sons have become great, helpful and loving big brothers to their sisters.
We had fun on the 4th of July, we did fireworks and and ate apple pie with vanilla ice cream. The day before the 4th we had a 3rd of July party and decorated the diningroom as well as the kids and I wore bandanas. We had Tombstone pizzas and Nestle's ice cream. Then we played board games until we couldn't keep our eyes open.
Then there we the nights of video games, movies and my favorite watching ghost shows on TV. We all went bowling, even though I can't bowl, I loved watching them all try their best. The kids played basketball even though it was 105º outside, they all five worked together to build a small "clubhouse" with a roof and all.
So even though this summer we didn't go out of town, or make it to the waterpark, we still had fun and enjoyed each other's company. It's memories that I hope they tell their children one day. You don't have to spend a bunch of money to have a blast together, you just need each other.
